💬 Intro
In November 2023, I received a diagnosis I never expected: osteoporosis in both my hips and lumbar spine.
I work in the travel and hospitality industry. I’m constantly on the move: walking, lifting, rushing through airports, carrying luggage. I’ve always been active. Four children, a husband, two Border Collies, a cat and two grandchildren at that time, while another was being conceived. When the doctor told me I had porous bones, and warned that even a hug or a sneeze could lead to a fracture, I was stunned…and terrified.
Suddenly, my life felt fragile.
🌱 What Happened Next
Like most women in this situation, I was quickly handed a prescription. The urgency in my doctor's voice was real, and I understand it now. But something didn’t sit right. Before taking anything, I decided to do my own research.
And what I found scared me even more.
I read about side effects, long-term concerns, and how many women wished they had explored other options first. That’s when I made my decision: I wasn’t going to jump straight into medication, at least not yet.
Let me be clear:
I’m not against medications. I believe they have their place and can be life-changing for many men and women. I just wasn’t ready. I gave myself a timeline: if two years pass and nothing improves on my DEXA scan, I’ll reevaluate. But for now, I’m committed to a holistic path.
🌿 Choosing a Different Way
The truth? I was scared for months. I didn’t know where to begin. But eventually, I stopped Googling worst-case scenarios and started researching how to build bone naturally, from the inside out.
And wow, there is so much we aren’t told.
I discovered incredible women reclaiming their strength through food, movement, posture, emotional healing, and yes, the right supplements, books and even YouTube resources. I started small, tracked everything, and began to feel…not fragile. Fierce.
💖 Why I’m Starting This Blog
This space — StrongHer Within — is where I’ll share everything I’m learning. Not as a doctor or expert, but as a woman who’s been there and decided to take back control of her health.
You’ll find:
- The supplements I take and why
- Bone-safe movement routines (for travel too!)
- Meals, mindset, recovery, and tools
- Many other insights, posts
- What other women say
- And most of all — hope.
If you're a woman over 50 navigating osteopenia, osteoporosis, or even if you are over 40 and just feeling like your strength is slipping, I want you to know you’re not alone. You are not fragile. You are powerful. And you have options.
🌸 Final Thoughts
Fear doesn’t vanish overnight. But it softens the moment you act in spite of it.
If you’re feeling fragile right now, I promise: it’s not forever.
